As the data is transmitted via light, there’s no electric current present in these cables. Because of this, fiber optic wires are immune to electromagnetic interference. They’re also not an electrical hazard risk so the cables are safer to repair and replace.
The signal transmitting through copper wire can radiate beyond the cable, which allows people to tap it with the right equipment. In fiber optic cables, all information is contained within a core channel to ensure no light escapes the wire. There’s no radiation so there’s no opportunity for people to tap it. This makes the system much more secure and suitable for business installations.
